  • Every single doula on our roster has been personally vetted and interviewed by our owner, Heidi Kate, and another member of our select team. When screening each member we verify formal training and/or certification in their field, conduct a thorough background check, confirm CPR + First Aid certification, receive a copy of their personal liability insurance, and confirm that they are a legally registered business in the state of California.

These are the minimum qualifications for those who join our Doula group. Each doula brings additional experience and training to their time with you.

All documentation may be provided upon request.

  • Rates are set by each individual doula and are based on more than just the number of clients they have worked with or births they have attended. When setting their rates, our team takes into account additional training & continuing education, life experience, expenses etc. but will also include skill set and extent of trainings completed. The lower end of the scale is generally for newer doulas with less experience, while the higher end of the pricing scale offers more experience and speciality services like custom postpartum meal preparation, belly binding, herbal support and more.

Birth Doula rates range between $1800 and $3000 flat rate, with an average of 2 prenatal appointments, duration of labor and at least 1 postpartum visit. The average rate for a birth doula in the Bay Area is about $2500.

Postpartum Doula rates range between $35 and $65 an hour, depending on service packages during the day and/or night. Packages can range from a couple hours during the day to full overnight care. The average rate for a night doula is $60/hr and for a day doula is $50/hr

*Please set up an appointment to inquire about sliding scale or low income doula services by using our Contact Us page.

Kaiser Insurance and Brilliant Birth’s Doula Connection Program:

Thank you for your inquiry! While we’re excited about Kaiser’s doula coverage program, it continues to evolve. As independent professionals, our doulas decide individually whether to engage with Kaiser billing, and currently, not everyone in our group participates.

Kaiser has clarified that birth doulas must submit claims directly and cannot accept upfront payment. While we support the intention to make doula services more accessible, this policy poses significant financial challenges. Doulas often begin working with clients months in advance and may wait up to 45 days for reimbursement, making it difficult for some to sustainably offer services under this model.

It’s also important to note that Kaiser’s program does not cover postpartum doula contracts - only wellness visits under a birth doula’s scope. That said, there have been cases where postpartum services were reimbursed, so the guidelines appear somewhat flexible.
